Home Sweet Home Improvement Ideas
This easy DIY job will add $5k-$10k to your home’s value.
Tell me more? There are a few items in every home that turn heads and increase the perceived value of a home, one is the kitchen and the other is the bathroom. Both of these living spaces have one thing in common, the need for cleanliness. Older homes used materials like tile that can trap bacteria and easily grow cultures that can get into your system and make you sick. So when people are evaluating a home they look to these areas as important. Great looking kitchens and bathrooms can mask a lot of other sins and increase the buyer’s perception of potential.
So, how do you go about improving these rooms without spending a fortune? No one wants to spend $30,000 to improve their home by $15,000, that is just crazy. But what about spending $500 to improve your home by $5,000 to $10,000, now that makes a lot of sense.
Take a look at this kitchen that was originally a tile countertop look. It was always hard to really keep clean. Taking out tile is not a cheap proposition, the demo itself will cost you $1,500 plus the removal and trash fees. It creates a lot of dust and usually then opens a pandora’s box of other fixes that add to the budget.
As long as you have a sound substrate, meaning the tiles are not loose or heavily damaged, you can go directly over the tile with the iCoat Countertop System and end up with beautiful food-safe countertops in less than 48hrs.
Step 1. Prepare the area and tape off the drawers and cupboards.
Step 2. Coat the countertops in a thin layer of the iCoat Concrete Composite.
Step 3. After it quickly dries, stone-rub the surface lightly to get it even smoother.
Step 4. Color your countertops whatever base color you want with an iCoat base-primer, usually white or black.
Step 5. Add more color to your epoxy or use just a crystal clear iCoat Countertop Epoxy Sealer. If adding color to enhance the depth, iCoat has many options for you.
Step 6. Add any extra color tints and features to your countertops. The epoxy is self-leveling and will produce a smooth surface that is food-safe and easy to clean.
